sacai Takes Hybrids From Runway To Tech With Beats by Dre

DIY in red, white and black…

The BeatsX wireless earphones have been reborn in three new colourways, Burned Red, Deep White and True Black thanks to Chitose Abe, creative director and founder at sacai.

Debuted at the FW19 men’s show in January, the jewellery inspired earphones are fitted with RemoteTalk functionality, magnetic buds and Flex-Form cables, and customisable with different coloured beads courtesy of the Tokyo based designer.

Showing both her men’s collection and women’s pre-fall together, Abe’s signature hybridisation saw a ‘melting pot’ of styles and evidence of a mining of her vast archive. Chunky knitwear and faux fur spliced with utilitarian jackets and plenty of leopard print, culminated in a delightful collection, synonymous with the brand’s twenty-year archive.

Beats President Luke Wood travelled to Tokyo to meet with Abe and discuss sacai's hybrid concept and the implications of taking BeatsX through this process.

An accompanying campaign video starring Syd of The Internet features ‘Come Together’ from her neo-seoul band’s latest album Hive Mind.
