A pre-award ceremony party sans Instagram in 2015 might sound like some sort of sick joke, perhaps, but this is exactly what Hedi Slimane – together with V magazine’s editor-in-chief, Stephen Gan – managed to pull off on Sunday night ahead of the 57th annual Grammy Awards.
While the formal event saw former Slimane sitter Beck walk away with the much coveted (and thanks to Kanye, controversial) Album of the Year award, elsewhere at Good Times at Davey Wavey’s on El Centro, Saint Laurent’s guests found themselves tackling a fake refrigerator in order to sample performances from The Garden, Mini Mansions, Bleached, Sky Ferreria and Sunflower Beam.
Hedi’s affection for the music industry is hardly a secret, with the creative director engineering Saint Laurent’s Music Project, casting a multitude of artists in the shows (Sunflower Beam’s Julia Cumming has walked exclusively for the brand for two years), and his recent photographic exhibition at the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent in Paris.
Many of those subjects accounted for Sunday’s guestlist, while Ioanna Echo and The Drums’ Jonny Pierce played disc jockey. Slimane, naturally, documented the whole shebang, the fruits of which can be seen above.
