Colourful synth-pop wormhole...
Is Tropical

It’s a colourful synth-pop wormhole in this week’s Clash DJ Mix, courtesy of electro-indie upstarts IS TROPICAL.

That’s right, we’re letting a band, with actual instruments and stuff, take over the Clash DJ Mix. But fear not, beat-seekers, for IS TROPICAL know their way around a synth and drum machine, too.

Mixing up fuzzy indie-rock with cloudy electro and synth-pop, IS TROPICAL have been generating some serious crossover appeal since emergence in 2009, after being quickly snapped up by ultra-hip tastemaking label Kitsuné. The band also deserve props for managing to piss off an impressively huge amount of people with their controversial videos for ‘The Greeks’ and ‘Dancing Anymore’ using only a minimal budget and lots of cheeky adolescent humour.

IS TROPICAL’s Clash mix hits the sunnier side of the band’s personality, drifting through hazy but upbeat electronic and alt. rock vibes, tangled with a few raucous moments and some lush synth-driven atmospheres. Featured artists include the inimitable Bryan Ferry, proggy noise-rock duo Civil Civic, Happy Trendy’s lo-fi electro and Canadian dream-poppers Le Roi Crocodile.
