Rolling With... Jammer
Grime pioneer Jammer is a man who knows a thing or two about determination.
From his earliest forays into jungle, through the embryonic sessions in his mother’s basement with friends Kano, D Double E, and Skepta, that led to the birth of the genre for which he’s so indelibly linked, to his leadership of Lord Of The Mics, the platform that elevates young UK MCs, Jammer’s journey is one that has been driven by a purpose to progress and prosper.
Yet, despite his patronage and promotion of a scene that first exploded nationally and then globally, Jammer’s roots are still firmly entrenched in East London.
Invited by Clash to revisit the streets that inspired him growing up, he took us on a guided tour of Leyton and the surrounding areas to open up about the perspectives that shaped him.
Beginning in the infamous basement that bore the N.A.S.T.Y. Crew, the short film documents a local hero celebrating the roads - metaphorical and otherwise - that led to this point, while his stature and renown are reflected in the vehicle that transports him: an immaculate Rolls-Royce Phantom, the ultimate symbol of prestige and achievement
