Hackney concert series returns...

One of London's true creative centres, East London was the base for the Illuminations concert series on its launch last year.

Hugely successful, the event will return in 2014 with a new line up which crosses both music and visual arts.

French songwriter Sebastian Tellier will perform live, while seismic American hip hop crew Shabazz Palaces are also due to appear.

Somewhat appropriately, November 5th witnesses a joint performance between Melt Yourself Down and no wave legend James Chance.

Elsewhere, Illuminations has confirmed a week long partnership with Hackney Picturehouse, featuring documentaries such as 'Wild Imagination' - focussing on Arthur Russell - and the Fugazi flick 'Instrument'.

Sam Cuthbert, manager at Hackney Picturehouse and guest film programmer alongside Illuminations curator Daniel Monsell said:

"Partnering with the Hackney Picturehouse on this strong line-up of films and events is a dream come true. Bringing the Illuminations Festival under our roof for this series of events will give audiences the chance to view music differently. The cinema since it opened has built up a reputation for championing music and moving image in different ways. There's a world of creative talent using music as their foundation and I'm excited to be able screen a small cross-section of it on the big and loud cinema screen."
