Rising synth-pop trio plays Aldwych Tube Station...
Years & Years

The Nokia Lumia Live Sessions continue with a special show featuring rising London outfit Years & Years (pictured), scheduled for May 19th at Aldwych Tube Station.

The Olly Alexander-fronted trio, whose previous alliances with the Kitsuné label and newly minted Polydor deal have propelled them to a position best described as destined for a breakthrough, deliver a kind of dance-pop hybrid that leans on James Blake-like textures and low-end ripples while possessing the immediacy that carried Friendly Fires to chart success. Check out the band’s video to ‘Real’ below…

If you think you recognise Alexander, that may be because he balances his Years & Years responsibilities with an acting career – one that’s so far seen the young Englishman appear in Skins, as well as a host of movies including Enter The Void, Great Expectations and the upcoming Posh.

Years & Years’ gig at Aldwych Tube Station is the latest example of Nokia and collaborative partners La Blogothèque striving to present music’s shining hopes in environments that truly complement their uniqueness. The station in question is disused in terms of being part of London’s public transit system, but is a location regularly used in television and cinema, having appeared in Sherlock, 28 Weeks Later and V For Vendetta. The gig follows Ella Eyre’s recent Lumia Live Sessions show at Dingles Fairground Museum, Devon (read a review of that show here).

About the sessions: The Lumia Live Sessions are a celebration of Nokia’s love of music discovery, bringing to life the essence of its free music streaming service, Nokia MixRadio. Featuring over 30 million tracks and hundreds of playlists created by a team of musicologists based in the UK, Nokia MixRadio caters to the tastes of every music fan. With no registration, subscription or advertisements, the app is designed to encourage people to discover both new music and long-lost favourites.

Says Christophe Abric, founder of La Blogothèque, on the Lumia Live Sessions: “Seeing Years & Years live last year was probably the best surprise of 2013. Young Olly Alexander has the holy fire in his hands: a soulful voice with a crazy R’n’B vibe, which enables him to be simultaneously emotional and groovy. Going to a Years & Years gig is to experience a wide range of feelings, from joy and euphoria, to melancholia and tears.”
