Rapper calls for "open honest dialogue..."

Drake has written an open letter following news of the Alton Sterling shooting.

The incident in Baton Rouge saw the 37 year old black man shot by police, sparking an outcry across the United States and beyond.

Footage of the shooting then emerged, seeming to contradict the story issued by local police. Musicians such as Justin Timberlake and Kanye West have spoken out, with Drake now deciding to write an open letter.

The statement appears on his Instagram, and asks for "open honest dialogue" while also explaining that he believes "it's impossible to ignore that the relationship between black and brown communities and law enforcement remains as strained as it was decades ago."

Drake writes: "No one begins their life as a hashtag. Yet the trend of being reduced to one continues."
