There's a baroque darkness to her work...

Gretel Hänlyn has shared her debut single 'Slugeye'.

The song seems to sit in a world of its own - arresting yet also mysterious, there's a kind of baroque darkness at play in her songwriting.

A picture of the grotesque, 'Slugeye' is reminiscent of Nick Cave, or even aspects of Kate Bush, while sitting resolutely in a solitary lane.

Crafted alongside mura masa, 'Slugeye' is a character study that offers a warts 'n' all view of its subject.

Gretel comments...

"'Slugeye' is about a 'low-life' character that isn't very liked, he has unfortunate qualities that even the best of us show at times. I guess he became less of a character created in one of my songs and more of an ongoing symbol of all the bad qualities we have and that we shouldn't be quite so ashamed of..."

Tune in now.
