Extremely rare demo turns up online...

An extremely rare demo recording of The Smiths has turned up online.

The band formed in 1982, hinging on the partnership between singer Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr.

The final line up took a while to formulate, and at one point Dale Hibbert was brought in on bass.

Morrissey and Marr made a recording to help him learn the material, choosing to cover The Cookies girl group rarity 'I Want A Boy For My Birthday'.

Failing to reach the band's standards, Dale Hibbert departed, winding his way across the country before opening a vegetarian café, Kava, in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, with his wife.

The existence of the demo was much debated, with small snippets finding their way into the hands of fans.

Now Dale Hibbert has uploaded the demo in full, and it could represent the first ever recording made by The Smiths.

Tune in below.
