With a childhood split between London and Nigeria, Josh Idehen has always felt like something of an outsider.
Able to observe the world as it passes him by, the Benin City vocalist paired up with production team LV for 2011's stunning collaborative album 'Routes'.
Recently, the project has stirred back into life. A storming Boiler Room session earlier this month saw LV and Josh Idehen unveil new material, informally introducing their new LP.
Forthcoming album 'Islands' drops on September 15th via Keysound Recordings, with the material said to be explicitly autobiographical. "Everything that was coming up through 'Islands' does relate to a part of me," Josh explains. "That feeling of being an outsider, being isolated and this kind of lonely story teller. And not in a kind of 'I'm cool, I'm different', but just an outcast, always on the outside looking in."
The production was in part informed by the vocalist's words. "More so than on 'Routes', Josh is creating little worlds and telling stories with this project," says Wil LV. "We tried to write music around him, with highs and lows; trying to make it coherent... but not too coherent."
'Islands' will be released on September 15th. Tracklisting:
