"My past life is a fucking mess, a real mess."
The Libertines

Pete Doherty has always struggled to tame his addictions.

Making no secret of his struggle with drugs, the singer has at times been accused of romanticising, of glamourising his habit.

Yet in a new interview the singer has opened up about the toll addiction has taken on his life. "I would like to get rid of the damn drugs," he told the Daily Star. "It's no longer fun. On the contrary, it's just shit and kills all my creativity. But it's difficult to stop. My past life is a fucking mess, a real mess."

"It's gone wrong in so many ways" he continued. "Although I don't believe in regrets - 'cause that offers nothing - but clearly some things I would like to change. I wish I had better contact with my family. I have caused so much crap."

Pete Doherty is set to take part in The Libertines' re-union shows this summer. Due to perform at Benicassim, the band will play a one off Glasgow show before appearing at London's Hyde Park for British Summertime.
