A rare live recording of Alex Chilton is set to be released later this year.
A teen idol. A cult icon. A veteran of the 60s revival circuit. A pioneering artist who never got his due. Across a forty year career Alex Chilton wore many masks, but resolutely took his own path, his own way of operating.
Invited to perform a rare solo show in New York back in 1997, the songwriter was dismayed by an electrical fault which left the venue in darkness. Many fans accepted a refund and left, but for those who stayed Alex Chilton would attempt something very special.
Gently intoning each track, with the venue in total darkness, the Big Star talent took fans on a wander through his catalogue. Luckily, super fan Jeff Vargon was on hand to capture the occasion and now the tapes are finally set to gain an official release.
'Electricity by Candlelight' will be released on October 21st, with Bar None stepping in to aid the recordings reach a wider audience.
