Rina Sawayama has confirmed plans to release her debut album 'SAWAYAMA'.
The alt-pop auteur's fashion-forward stance took her to the cover of Clash with just a handful of singles to her name, and it's been a joy to watch her progress.
Eagerly anticipated debut album 'SAWAYAMA' lands on April 17th, following on from her 2017 EP 'RINA'.
House-leaning new single 'Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)' is effortlessly stylish, a fantastic pop statement that utilises some chrome-finished production.
It's worth placing alongside Dua Lipa in the pop stakes, but as ever with Rina it's resolutely original.
Out now, 'Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)' actually reminds Clash a little of Azari & III - and that's no bad thing.
The single plays a key role on Rina Sawayama's incoming debut LP. She comments:
"The album ultimately is about family and identity. It's about understanding yourself in the context of two opposing cultures (for me British and Japanese), what 'belonging' means when home is an evolving concept, figuring out where you sit comfortably within and awkwardly outside of stereotypes, and ultimately trying to be ok with just being you, warts and all."
