Shannon Lay has shared her curiously affecting minimalist piece 'August'.
The track seems to revolve around that spartan guitar pattern, and endlessly repeating yet continually evolving series of half-picked notes.
Over this her voice undulates, the lyrical torrent rolling out unforced, augmented by the spartan arrangement.
Produced by close friend Ty Segall - he produced her new album in its entirety, while Shannon plays in his Freedom Band - there clarity seems to emphasise the force of Shannon Lay's performance.
She comments: "I believe whoever you record with tends to affect the mood of music and Ty really brought this jovial sense that I hadn’t really explored yet."
"Once you get rolling with him, he just throws these ideas at the wall. And you’re like, ‘I would never have thought of that!’ I couldn’t have hoped for a better guide and energy to help create this record."
