Legendary figure in British folk emerges from the shadows...

Shirley Collins has announced plans for new album 'Lodestar', her first new LP in 38 years.

The singer is simply one of the most important figures in British music, a true legend in traditional circles.

Capable of maintaining hard-fought traditions and surging into new realms, Shirley Collins sadly retired from performance in the early 80s after losing her voice.

Coaxed back onto the stage in 2012, Shirley Collins has now completed work on her first full length album for almost four decades.

'Lodestar' is forthcoming on Domino, with the singer sharing a new version of the traditional song 'Cruel Lincoln'.

Shirley explains: “This is an ancient ballad, found only rarely in England. The theory is that Cruel Lincoln was a mason who was not paid for the work he did for ‘the Lord of the Manor’ and so extracted a terrible revenge”.

Featuring bird song recorded at the back of Shirley Collins' cottage, you can listen in below.

'Lodestar' will be released on November 4th. Tracklisting:
