Amazon strikes back...

The ongoing vinyl revival is one of the most discussed topics in modern music.

Last week, Urban Outfitters entered the fray. The fashion chain stock vinyl in abundance, with Calvin Hollinger - the company’s Chief Administrative Officer - reported by Buzzfeed as saying that Urban Outfitters was the biggest vinyl outlet in the world.

"Music is very, very important to the Urban customer…" he was reported as saying, before adding: "in fact, we are the world’s number one vinyl seller."

Since then, though, Billboard has done a full analysis of the figures. It seems that Amazon - with a 12.3% market share - is the biggest seller in the United States, narrowly ahead of Urban Outfitters on 8.1%.

Looking globally, it would stand to reason that Amazon would exceed Urban Outfitters' figures. It's a much bigger brand for a start, with Urban only having around 50 stores outside the United States.

That said, the two still tower over their nearest competitor, with third place Hastings Entertainment trailing both on 2.8%.
