Formed by Jack White, Brendan Benson and two members of The Greenhornes, The Raconteurs were much more than the sum of their parts.
Across two albums the band fused garage rock with bubblegum pop, acoustic balladry with frenzied rock workouts. It was all a little inspiring...
Technically on hiatus, Jack White revealed last year that The Raconteurs were plotting their third album. Brendan Benson, though, has an alternative opinion with the songwriting informing Billboard (via NME) that the re-union wasn't even at the discussion stage.
"That's kind of off the table," Benson said. "It always felt spontaneous. I liked that about it, too. And I think it remains that way. We never planned anything. We never planned a breakup. All of us but one live in the same town, so [in the future] it could very well happen… or not."
Brendan Benson is currently focussing on Readymade Records - his own imprint, the label has a burgeoning roster. "Since I started the label" he said, "I have been going through this transition, and it’s almost like an identity crisis – like leaving my solo career a bit. I’m still going to make records."
Jack White, of course, has multiple plans of his own. Working on his second solo album, the Nashville based artist is also busy completing material with The Dead Weather.
