Ah, Broken Records. Blazing a trail with two 4AD-sponsored LPs, before deciding to take time out.
Retreating to the rehearsal studio, the band has returned with what might well be their most intense and downright enjoyable listening experience yet. Sure, it still recalls Arcade Fire or Springsteen in its size and scope, but now Broken Records feel that little bit older, that little bit more confident.
‘We Weren’t Ready’ is a passionate opener, while ‘Toska’ (Clash premiere) is all folk textures and barbed lyricism. Refusing to play the hype game, Broken Records took three years to complete their third album – it is more than worth the wait.
