A captivating experience…
Sébastien Tellier - Confection

French pop music virtuoso Sébastien Tellier is nothing if not consistently surprising. After the electro-indebted ‘Sexuality’ (2008) and its messianic follow-up ‘My God Is Blue’ (2012) comes ‘Confection’, a mostly-instrumental collection of short, epigrammatic arrangements.

Largely consisting of forlorn strings and wondrous piano accompaniments, with the usual Tellier idiosyncrasies thrown in for good measure (from power guitar chords to soprano vocals), ‘Confection’’s 14 short and sweet tracks segue together to form an impressive musical patchwork of recurrent motifs.

The overall effect is not only a startlingly coherent and captivating audio experience, but also great fun. Another impressive feather in one of the most versatile caps in Parisian pop music.
