Cut Ribbons

Wales has a rich lineage of indie pop.

Bristol - hub for Sarah Records - lies just beyond the border, acting as a provocative inspiration for a generation of bowl-cut, stripey t-shirt wearing teens. Now the country seems to be in the throws of a new DIY revolution, with the likes of Cardiff based Islet leading the way.

Cut Ribbons are the latest to take our fancy. A five piece from Llanelli - a place we've never been but that name alone sounds fantastic - the band have spent the past year on the road. Grabbing support slots with much larger, established acts (Dry The River and Wales' own The Joy Formidable to name but two) it seems that that band are now ready to step out on their own.

New single 'Luna' is a great introductory point. Set to be released on Jen Long's ever-reliable Kissability imprint, the song opens with gently coo-ing male / female vocals which retain traces of their Welsh accent. Piling into an epic verse, Cut Ribbons have a breathless daring, a sense of melodrama which is unusual in such a new group.

An immaculately formed pop nugget, the soaring vocals sound like the Arcade Fire if Win Butler had swapped his Springsteen collection for some Heavenly. Swooning, inspirational stuff, in true Kissability fashion 'Luna' will be available as both a download and a mug. Now, you can't say fairer than that...

Out on April 8th, you can listen to 'Luna' below.
