Danny Scrilla

As home to a stellar, broad-ranging cast of producers, from grime-edged stateside beatsmith Starkey to techno virtuoso Darling Farah, Civil Music aren't afraid to push boundaries and their latest release, a six-track stomper from Munich's Danny Scrilla, is one of the most diverse cuts I've heard so far this year.

Scrilla, whom also released on Om Unit's 'Cosmic Bridge' imprint last year, seems to meander across the electronic landscape almost at will on 'Fluxus', an EP that whole-heartedly does away with the laborious shackles of 'genre'; glorious synth work aside, constants are few and far between.

Although all six tracks, two of which are remixes courtesy of Goth Trad and Brownswood affiliate Deft, are exceptionally good, it is bonus cut 'Clairvoyant' that really caught my attention. Bold, synth-heavy and almost Joker-esque in parts, words do it little justice.

A stunning piece of music.
