Iceland boasts a quite ludicrously potent creative community.

Visiting the island, locals claim it's partially due to the weather – when it's so dark outside for six months of the year, people tend to burrow inwards and create new things.

Mammút have known one another since they were 14 years old, and this chemistry ripples through their music. Third album 'Komdu til mín svarta systir' was released last year, winning Best Album at the Icelandic Music Awards.

Ready for the wider world, Mammút are set to release 'Salt' through Bella Union shortly. It's an intense offering, the chugging bass recalling the spasm of Public Image Limited, say, while the vocals recall early Bjork.

There's a visual quality to the music, as well, which can't be denied: it seems to arrive packed with colour, the sounds echoing off each other in splendid creation.
